Engineering for young children: yes, they can do it!

Imagem
Hello! Today we are going to bring a interesting topic for children's learning: engineering! At first you can think, engineering for kids? That's impossible! They are too young! But here I am to tell you that is super possible and can be super fun too! Engineering for children is not just about structures and things that are tactile. It's about problem solving, figure out how the world works, how things are made, how to design and create something. There are many different types of engineering: civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, agricultural and many others. In our experiment today, we are going to work with Legos, creating a tower and using some principles of civil engineering. We are going to think about balance, structure, design, using their creativity, brainstorming ideas and much more.  Thinking about a tower of Legos Duplo, we decided to create different designs, trying and checking which one is going to be the best choice for our experiment. We tried differen

An experience for families to connect with nature

Hello ! We' are back today to discuss the importance of nature in our lives, specially in children's routine. The connection with nature is a wonderful thing in any persons's life. For children, being close to nature has a number of advantages : teaching the importance of preservation, developing creativity, concentration and calm; in addition, children improve the senses, by getting to know new textures, smells and colors, move when climbing trees and running. Geese we found in one our walks, what a surprise! So today I came to share with you an experience that I really enjoy doing with my family. It's an experience mixed with a field trip, which will result in beautiful memories! We're going to need: - a camera, can be a phone, a professional camera, but we like to use an instant camera too! - weather appropriated clothing. Think about umbrellas, boots, gloves, everything to stay safe and dry - magnifiers (you can easily find then in a dollar store) A sensory expe

Science experiment: Little Boat in the Water

Hello! Today we are going to put into practice a very cool scientific experiment that will surely attract the attention of the little ones! For our experiment today, we used the following materials: - aluminum paper - assorted coins, but you can use pasta, beans, pebbles, marbles or whatever you have at home, your backyard or the closest park from your house - a container with water, it can be a plastic container, a bowl, a sink My son's coins collection 1. First, fill your container with water. In our case, we fill our sink. 2. Then, fold the aluminum foil so that it floats in the water. Here we made a little boat (if you need help, you can use this video on Youtube ). Our little boat waiting for the coins 3. Put the boat in the water and check if it is floating. Did it float? Excellent! Now start gradually placing the objects you have chosen inside the boat. Our boat with 40 coins Here at home we made an estimate: I voted 50 coins to sink the boat, my daughter voted 30 and my s

Why curiosity is important for children?

Hello! Today I'm going to talk a little about the importance of curiosity in child development. We often don't give due importance to curiosity as we should. Curiosity is something that instigates and stimulates children (and even adults) to learn, discover and explore. It develops intelligence and the various areas of development, such as cognitive, physical, language, among many others. Source: Education Week You must be wondering how curiosity does all this? I will explain. The child can be exposed to different types of scenarios that develop curiosity, for example, bringing materials or questions to be discussed with the class. Making comparisons such as why are some things plastic and others wooden? How does a bean become a plant? How does a caterpillar become a butterfly? An educator or caregiver can offer opportunities for the child to explore, question, create hypotheses and share ideas and this will bring knowledge and consequently will develop the intelligence of thes
